After a day at Bok tower and fishing, this offered a perfect dinner to end a perfect day. Great service, soft shell crabs, fried grouper and crab cakes. The fried.spinach and beer battered onion rings are excellent. Odd location Next to a highway but really nice atmosphere inside.

This place is amazing! Love the atmosphere (like something you would find in the Keys). Dont be scared off by the hood on the drive there. "its in the hood, but the food is good". The service was really good, we were seated right away and Barbara, our waitress came over to take our orders in a timely manner. They came over two or three times to check on us. The Fried Green Tomatoe appetizer was really good and was perfect to split for our party of 5. The key lime sauce with it was excellent. portions were generous. Everyone at our table ordered burgers or chicken sandwich and everyone said they were really good. I got the black jack burger with the cajun mayonnaise on the side. It didnt need it, was tasty with out it. The sweet potato fries were really good. I would ask for them to hold the sprinkle of sugar next time. The famous Gumbo was tasty. It was hearty, not spicy. I probably wouldnt order that again. The table of three local businessman next to us had three orders of fried shrimp that looked amazing, not greesy and lightly dusted batter. they said it was the "Best in the whole state" I will definitely come back and order that next time.

What a dive! Don't let the outside scare you away because inside is very cool and beachy. My co-worker had the Matt's Black Jack burger and he said it was amazing. I had the Southwest Salad and it was delicious! The Fried Spinach is something unique and I am glad I tried it but eh, won't get it again. Get there early cuz the place started filling up by 12.

Everything was fresh made and never frozen. Crab cakes, fried Shrimp and fried Grouper outstanding. The fresh cut made to order French fries are great!! The building is run down outside and the decor is wonderfully strange and Beachy. No frills and casual but great food!!!

Don't let the neighborhood discourage you! This place is amazing! Super casual and relaxed. The porch out back is a perfect place for a small table or to hang by the fire pit. Although we've never sat inside it appears to be a great little room. We ordered the mussels and conch fritters to start. Super yummy!! And the mussels?! I've never seen such big mussels as Crazy Fish serves. For lunch I had the app size seared tuna. Mom had the soft shell PO boy and my niece, the sea scallop pasta. All were all so happy with our food. Ohh and to top it off, a very decent house merlot and Pinot noir, both $6 for a very healthy pour.

We were visiting the Lake Wales area around lunch time and decided to try Crazy Fish and I'm glad we did. The food was delicious and the service was very good. My wife and I both ordered the Grouper basket. Two big pieces of fish, lightly battered, fries and slaw. It was all we could do to finish it. We'll go back for more soon.

Wow what an amazing place!!! The food and service is incredible! Crazy Fish has now become our favorite place to eat :) The fried green tomatoes with their key lime sauce was delicious and the fresh Mahi-mahi and Grouper was the best we've had in Florida! The drive to the place could confuse any but don't turnaround or you'll miss out on this gem :) We'll definitely be back!

Great fresh seafood! We had the smoked fish dip, calamari, and crab cake sandwich and it was all so good. If you want real Florida seafood, go here. And get the sweet potato fries (and use the key lime sauce!).

This place puts just about every coastal seafood place I've tried to shame. You wouldn't think it, but wow...wow...and wow. I could only sum it up as someone really cares about the food they serve here. You know it's special when they make their own French fries. Monster flavor and freshness all around. Oysters Rockefeller knocked it out of the park for me personally. Yum! My wife mentioned that they were voted best burger in Polk County, too. I saw it and tried it, and yes, it's special. I'm willing to bet most items on their menu are that way, too. It's kind of an adventure getting there, but man, I'm telling you it's worth it. I wanted to be selfish, and not share a review but this place deserves it's due.

By far the best seafood in the area. I come every time I visit. High quality and the perfect portion - not too large. Casual and comfy attire. Nice place to relax and know your meal will not be a disappointment. Great burgers as well. Shrimp basket with sweet potato fries are my favorite.

I liked the food 2 years ago when I came here. This trip....ehhhh....i dunno. My crabcakes were tasty but super salty and the salt burnt the roof of my mouth off. Not fun. The soup was lukewarm for some reason. I tried the fried spinach, which while not bad, was just different. I wont call it terrible. The waitress did warn me that either i loved it or i hated it, no in between. I grew to not hate it....but not love it. The rest of my party complained their food was unseasoned. Brother in law hated his steak. Which worked fine for me bc i took it, ate it, and loved it!!! What can i say? Gimme a steak and some A1 and i'm good. Try this place out.

I try Not to be in Lake Wales unless absolutely necessary. It's not a bad place, there just isn't a whole lot around. Except orange groves..... and I also hear there's a gigantic Tower. I had to come out today for work. It just so happened to be pouring down rain, which wasn't going to be prime for the photo taking that I needed to do. It was around lunch time so I figured I'd find someplace where I could grab a bite and take temporary shelter from the elements. Crazy Fish was the first restaurant on the "nearby restaurant" Yelp list and had a good rating. That was all I needed to see. Choice made. If you blink, you'll pass it. They're located off a little side road, parallel with Hwy 60 on the Eastbound side. It's just West of US 27. The inside is typical fisherman's wharf décor, a lot of wood and fish & boat things. My server was very friendly and helpful. She told me about a special they were having. It was a seaweed salad (wakame) topped with scallops and came with two sides. Sold. I started with their signature soup. A seafood gumbo which had shrimp, sausage and chicken in it. It was good. Decent pieces of all the meats. I liked it. For my wakame special, I got the scallops blackened. Tasted great. The side of fries that I ordered with it were a natural cut. They were okay. Sometimes natural fries don't seem to get the crispiness that I like. These fell into that category. The side of broccoli was... well it was broccoli. I got it to pretend I like eating healthy. Overall though, deliciousness was found here today in Lake Wales, and for that Crazy Fish I thank you.

Doesn't look like much from the outside but don't judge the book by the cover. This place is a hidden gem. Great service, fresh seafood, and yummy deserts. The decor is very kitschy and cute. But it's very clean and the seafood is very fresh. I had the seafood salad. It had plump, ripe, red tomatoes, red onions, calamari, delicious shrimp, and big succulent scallops. The house dressing is oil and vinegar. Very healthy, but if your going for taste not health I'd go with a different dressing. My husband had the breaded cod and fries and enjoyed them For desert we split the Florida orange cake. I highly recommend it

I was traveling home from a job on the West coast of Florida and was getting hungry just as I reached Lake Wales. I pulled over to check Yelp and was pleasantly surprised to find Crazy Fish Bar & Grill was well reviewed. AND I happened to stop a mere 100 feet from its door. An obvious Omen! This place is not fancy at all BUT the meal I had was excellent and not over priced. I have eaten at just about every seafood restaurant in the Florida Keys so I was not prepared for the fact Crazy's meal was EQUAL to or BETTER than any of the seafood I had in the keys. Such a shocker given its location on the spine of Florida hours away from the ocean. I have since gone out of my way to be able to eat here again and the experience was equally as good.

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Has an open kitchen so you can easily see your food being cooked to order. Even the fries and coleslaw are made from scratch. It is kid friendly with excellent menu options for the little ones. The owner was so friendly and helpful letting me view some of the great food coming out of the kitchen. I love the local feel of this place. The service was excellent and as timely as it could be in a packed restaurant with a 20 minute wait time for a table (well worth every minute). Great place to find fresh seafood.

I walked into this restaurant on a Saturday night with my two kids. There was a 30 minute wait but the woman took one look at the kids and sat us right away. They treated us like kings. This kind of down home service is hard to find. They have a key line sauce that you should just put on everything! The grouper was fresh and the pie was creamy and not too tart. Overall a great welcoming experience on a rainy night.

Great food. Even better friendly service. Like others, we recommend the fried spinach, the sweet potato fries with key lime sauce, and the grouper. The special was the tile fish and it was excellent. We also had some of the best off-season oysters we've ever had and the gulf shrimp were very big. They even offered our kids to-go sodas. Call ahead for seating. Fantastic!

Every year when we go to Sun &Fun in Lakeland, we stop at Crazy Fish in Lake Wales on our way to Vero Beach. It is always a highlite for us. Great food. Funky casual atmosphere & service. I love the comfy booths. Enjoy watching guys in open kitchen prepare fresh fish. I always order whatever is freshest off boats. This trip it was grouper for both of us. Mine blackened , his fried. We both liked mine better. All sides great and next time , will ask for gumbo with rice on the side. They serve it with rice ,mixed (cooked?) in the gumbo so too much rice, not enough gumbo. But gumbo is very tasty! Everything they serve is terrific!

BEST seafood we have had in about a year and a half but walking in: Strike 1, my husband was not convinced this would be a good place based on the interior - we had driven a long way to get here. Strike 2, the prices were more than we wanted to spend on this late lunch/early dinner. But what a homerun when we got the food. He opted for the (lightly) fried shrimp basket with fries and coleslaw. I opted for the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich also with fries/slaw. Wow! It was terrific! There was a huge amount of fish that I was even able to share with my husband and still have a huge sandwich for me. Fries are fresh cut and the slaw was fantastic - this coming from both of us that would not choose slaw on ANY menu. The homemade tartar, cocktail and another homemade sauce (ranch or cilantro - can't remember), was stupendous. We only had water but the wine looks like $6.25 per glass (ouch) and bottled beer only - no draft. We will be back with the in-laws. It was REALLY good.

Really good seafood. I had a clam chowder that was thick and creamy. The Caeser salad was ample. The dressing had a hint of lemon that was nice. The grouper was lightly fried with a taste and texture that makes me believe it was fresh fish. My wife is a vegetarian. She had a tossed salad and a couple of side dishes. The slaw and the new potatoes really pleased us both, but we didn't care that much for the fried spinach. The meal left us too full to sample the desserts and we left satisfied. We definitely plan to return. Good and friendly service and good food.

I've been here several times now and, by and large, I'm a fan of Crazy Fish. I generally get one of the fish sandwiches or a platter, the occasional salad. I have never had a bad meal here, though my mother wasn't so lucky. My second time here, she was visiting me and we came for a late lunch. We weren't attended to very regularly by the waitress, which was especially frustrating when my mom's fish was so overcooked that she couldn't cut into it with her fork. The waitress finally came by (about 10-15 mins later and they weren't busy) and suggested that my mom get it fried instead, which would be much quicker, since we were running late to meet up with other family. Not at all the healthy entree she was looking for, but she finally accepted since she was super hungry and we had an hour's drive ahead of us. I haven't had any issues with non-fried fish since then, so hopefully it was a fluke, but I do occasionally have trouble finding the server or getting refills (or first drinks) in a timely manner. The price for non-fried, non-sandwich items can be a bit prohibitive if you're on a budget, especially at lunch when you'd expect to get a break. Nonetheless, I love the quirky decorating inside, the food is tasty, and it's open in the mid-afternoon hours when I tend to be having a meal because of my early work schedule. The sweet potato fries are excellent, as is the smoked fish dip (which they were nice enough to make into a sandwich for my friend) and salmon caesar salad, and the coconut shrimp is ridiculously good. The only thing I've had and not really liked is the crab cakes. The four stars you see on my review are by Lake Wales standards, which is to say it's very good food for this little town, but wouldn't necessarily hold up to four stars in larger cities. Maybe 3.5 outside of Polk County. But when it comes to casual, comfortable, tasty restaurants, this is the only game in town.

Great place, conveniently located if you are traveling on 60 across Florida, as I was with my family. Fresh fish (kid menu is a generous portion compared to some chains), delish clam chowder, super-fresh shrimp cocktail, crispy calamari, and also the chicken Alfredo was very good. Two things were slightly below expectations: the rice side dish and the crab cake (both a bit bland). But OMG the FRIED GREEN TOMATOES! Yum yum yummy!!

My husband and I were in Lake Wales on business, and we asked our client if he could suggest a place for lunch. We're so glad he pointed us to Crazy Fish, and next time I bring family out to Bok Tower, we're definitely stopping here again. I can't believe there's a great, old-Florida style fish house, sitting well inland in Lake Wales! Easily the finest fried Gulf shrimp basket I've had in years; my sweet potato fries were perfect and I need to figure out how to make their homemade key lime sauce -- for reasons. Excellent, courteous service, even at the height of lunchtime. Fun interior that completely belies the dusty, overpass surroundings. Trust me, it's all great inside.

My husband and I just ate there, will NEVER go back. We ate in the bar area. While we were eating, we noticed a young lady placing her gloves on making a the salads out of the salad bar. Apparently she wasn't going fast enough to suit the other workers, so then I watched two women who had just carried dirty plates to the kitchen area reach into the salad with their bare hands and make salads. So glad we didn't get salads. On the way out spoke with a lady who said she was 1 of the owners. She didn't even let me finish my conversation because she was too busy answering her phone. We will never eat there again due to employees not following health procedures.

This place doesn't have enough reviews but I'm glad it has 5 stars already. The food is good, fresh, delicious. The service, friendly, fast, couldn't ask for more. The location may be a bit hard to find for out of towners. If you find yourself in a residential area wondering if you're close then you are probably around the block, keep going down the gravel/dirt road and it's on the end, not too well lit at night. I gotta say, don't let the location or look of this place fool you. We went because I kept reading how great their seafood was, and it was SO good, I went back 2 days in a row for the same thing. Best mahi sandwich with handcut sweet potato fries ever! Tried their coconut fried shrimp as well as their fried green tomatoes, very delicious. I am still thinking about my sandwich a week later. Place is awesome. If I was a local I'd be going there all the time. Visited from Ft. Lauderdale and it was recommended by my B&B's front desk agent at "Chalet Suzanne". It was already on my list but glad to see they suggest this awesome little place. p.s our waitress informed us their seafood is very fresh so what I had for dinner had just been caught that morning. It tasted like it too! Soooooo good!

Redeemed! As noted below we had a couple of not great meals but tonite it was delish. My husband said it was the best shrimp scampi he's ever had. You have to work at the whole pompano but it's very good and worth it. Fried spinach and sweet potato fries still yummy. You might have to ask for the key lime dipping sauce. The potatoes didn't come with it this time. Happy for the business and us that it was enjoyable. Good service. We stop here every year traveling cross state but the last two years have not been that great. Just had fried grouper and it was ok. The breading didn't have much taste but the fish was nice and the sweet potato fries with key lime dipping sauce are delish. Fried spinach is a unique side dish and tasty. Service is good and friendly. May have to look for an alternative next time through town, though.

Extremely fresh seafood served here. We had the seafood gumbo, the ahi tuna steak and a crab sandwich. The seafood gumbo was hearty and delicious. The vegetables served with the ahi tuna were fresh, not frozen. The french fries and onion rings served with the sandwich tasted homemade. They advertise free refills on soft drinks and they were not kidding: when the three of us had paid and were leaving, our waitress brought us three fresh lemonades in to-go cups! We passed through Lake Wales on a drive from Lakeland to Miami; unfortunately, we do not often pass this way. Otherwise, I would eat at Crazy Fish once a week. I did, however, buy a T-shirt to commemorate my dining experience. :)

Discovered this great place by accident when passing by on route 60. Since the parking lot was packed I figured it was good... After having the whole pompano, appetizers , etc it will definaty will be a regular place I visit. Everything was fresh and delicious , served with a smile by a great staff! I would rate my meal a 10... Loved the down home decor too...

Local family restaurant the serves up a unique experience, great seafood, good service and reasonable prices. They go the extra mile in giving you the best eating experience. This is a small town eating experience combined with top quality seafood. They will even peal the shrimp for you. Portions are very satisfying. The atmosphere is that of a cozy small town shanty. It is the local signature eating experience to be sure and enjoy when visiting the Lake Wales area.

we were looking for a seafood restaurant with atmosphere and we sure found it. much better alternative to the chain restaurants in the area. good food, decent prices, lots of basket options. a little off the beaten path, but worth the effort to find it, right off of 27 at 60. looks like a dive from the outside, but is pretty quaint inside. friendly staff. we went fairly early on a friday evening but could tell it was filling up for the night.

Amazing fresh seafood. Wasnt sure what we were in for looking at Crazy Fish from the outside....next to a shop that makes grave stones and burial vaults. The restaurant is charming both in appearance and atmosphere. Great service. Great prices on very fresh seafood.....cheap compared to Miami. Portions are generous from the shrimp cocktail to the gumbo and the scallop dinner. No complaints except for one of their signature items : fried spinach. This appears to be their attemp to make chips out of spinach, so the leaves are deep fried until crisp but all they tasted liked was what i imagine oily crispy paper would taste like. Bland and an odd texture. Left those to the side to devour the scallops. Grouper that my companion was delicious and surprisingly light for deep fried. And we couldnt pass on dessert. The limoncello parfait was epic. Chocolate mousse with the hazelnut crunch on top wasnt half bad either.

Frrrrrrresh fish cooked YOUR way. Great shrimp cocktail and smoked fish spread filled us up before the main course, but the grouper looked so good that we got hungry all over again! Kim our server, kept the food coming at a perfect pace even though the place was full. This is about my tenth visit and I always order something different. I hope to go through every item on the menu just so I can start over again!

As other reviewers have said, it is nice to see a non-chain restaurant in this part of the state, and I wish I could give it more stars, but the food was just meh. My hubby and I went for a late lunch on a Sunday after visiting the Bok Towers because I had read such good reviews. The restaurant has a cute atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. When it came to ordering, they didn't seem to completely have their act together. They did not have their soup of the day done yet, the sweet potatoes were also not ready, and they didn't have any black beans. Since the two items that I really wanted were not available, I went with what the waitress suggested and got the fried spinach and red beans with an order of blackened shrimp. My husband got the grouper basket with fries and coleslaw. None of the food was outstanding, except we did feel the grouper was very fresh. If I were to come back to this area again, I'm really not sure if I would return here. Perhaps I just came on an off day, so we'll see...

Excellent food, friendly staff in the middle of a little town. I've tried something different each time and cant pick a favorite. This one takes the #1 spot on my list for seafood. It really is that good. If I had to complain about anything - it would be the price, but I would rather pay a little more and be happy every-time then save a few bucks with a hit-or-miss experience.

A casual fun place for some pretty good fish and beers. A little Florida kitchy but very friendly service and very cold beers. I had the tuna with sesame seeds and ginger wasabi sauce. Generally good although the fish was kind of thin and the "sear" was more of a slight browning. Would have been better if thicker slice with hotter sear. Generally good though. Salad was your standard lettuce, slice cuke, slice tomato with choice of dressing. Other diners at my table had the Pomano and enjoyed it. For this part of the state, a refreshing change to get away from the national chains. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by for some fresh fish and really cold beers. All in all a nice casual dinner choice.

Great food, great service. As other Yelpers have said, don't let the outside scare you away. This is a wonderful little restaurant!! Everything we ordered was good. We had grouper, shrimp scampi, king crab and more! Get the coconut cream cake! Delicious!

The ambiance is quirky and fun. The service was above average and the food was excellent. The menu was creative - fried spinach - and the specials were unusual - whole fish, soft shell crabs with various key lime sauce combinations. Don't let the location and exterior put you off - this is a seriously good restaurant with a casual but well trained staff.

I am pass by the small town and look for our fellow yelper to look up best place for lunch and decided to try. This restaurant look like a small house modified to sitting restaurant. The interior decorate with Florida fishes and paint with many color. It casual decoration have you thinking seafood. I was quite a surprise for the inland restaurant have good seafood per our yelper. Today I have order a today special dish- rainbow trout with two side. The trout is grill and rub with garlic and parsley source. The trout is fresh and the side of the trout is grill to perfection. The garlic rub added the flavor but not over power the fish taste. The two side are fried sweet potato and deep fried spinach. The fried spinach melt on mouth immediately. If they can pair with fried kale is better than the spinach. It also come with a choice of salad. For $17 lunch, this very reasonable. It is come with two half fillet which is whole fish. The serving is good and fast. The food came less than 20 minutes. Good for group and children. The customer is mixed age, mostly older age. Server is experience.

Wow! We are from Virginia... And we found Crazy Fish on Yelp while visiting Legoland... 3 kids and after a LONG day... We were inspired by delicious bite after bite! From the fried green tomatoes, the Grouper!!! to the fried shrimp with our kids - WOW! We were very pleased and excited our entire meal! The cranberry chipolte sauce is a MUDT try! Emeril Lagasee has been here and will feature them on Food Network soon! A MUST while in Florida!

Great atmosphere,food, and staff! The food came out in a timely manner and was excellent! The blackened grouper was flaky and well seasoned. The shrimp had a light batter and tasted superb. The sweet potato fries came out with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled over them and there was a variety of dipping sauces to choose from. We will definitely come back here the next time we are in town! Even if you are not a huge seafood fan, like me, this place will surely please everyone!
